This course is Prerequisite to DM24B

Course Description
A study in the principles of animation as defined by Disney animators and recognized as the essence of animation magic and the illusion of life as applied to 2D and 3D animation. Course includes the history of animation from early black and white cartoons to modern 2D and 3D productions. Students learn how scripts, storyboards, and short animation sequences are developed using traditional and computer techniques.

Course Learning Outcomes

  • Recognize use of animation principles in historical and modern animation productions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of processes that give static images lifelike movement.
  • Create scripts and storyboards for short animation sequences.
  • Utilize traditional techniques for creating basic in-between sketches.
  • Translate sketched animation sequences to digital formats utilizing computer hardware and software.
  • Differentiate between raster and vector graphic formats for optimum animation production and delivery.
