CIS Programming
|
A student receiving a
certificate in CIS programming will have learned the fundamentals of a
computer system, problem-solving skills, two computer languages, data
communications, the use of application software and systems analysis and
implementation.
Business programmers, or
software developers, create and maintain programs that are used in
business for accounting, payroll, and information management.
Systems programmers or analysts
maintain the computer system of an organization by making new equiptment
work, training people to use the system and solve problems when they
occur.
|
The ablity to
coordinate data and problem-solve are two of the most important
characteristics of a programmer. Many technicians consider diagnosing
"hard to find" trobles one of their most challenging and satisfying
duties.
|
There is a huge demand
for high-tech workers such as computer programmers and network
administrators in the job market today. Computer technology is
constantly advancing, and the rising demand for information, futher
automation of offices and factories, advances in health and medicine,
and continuing scientific research will stimulate the demand for skilled
programmers.
Much faster than average growth
is projected through 2005 for computer programmers. Computer programmers
are projected to be amoung California's fastest growing occupations,
1995-2005. Nationally, by 2005, the positions are expected to
double.
Almost any company that uses
technology will need programmers or high tech computer workers of some
sort: banks, manufacturing, government agencies, medical companies,
etc.
Postions include: software
programmers, network administrators, systems analysts, help-desk
operators, computer support technicians, application developers and
educators.
|
Large employerss such
as Microsoft, IBM, and Hewlett Packard, as well as smaller local
companies such as Honig Software, College of the Redwoods, and Team
Solutions need computer programmers. The industry average for network
administrators is $35,000 anually; for software programmers it is
approximately $37,000; and for systems analysts, $44,000, with top pay
for computer management positions approaching $100,000.
