Using Sounds in PowerPoint
Remember that sounds over 100k are linked (program properties defined at Tools>Options>General).
Two ways to put sound in a slideshow
Putting a sound onto a slide
1. Select the slide you want the sound on.
2. Go to Insert>Movies and Sounds>Sound from File
3. Locate the sound from your file folder, this is where either an absolute
or relative link is being established.
4. A message will appear for you to choose auto play on not. After clicking
yes or no, a sound icon will appear on the slide. You can hide the icon or move
it off the slide if automatic play was selected. (If you choose no, the sound
is activated by clicking the icon during the slideshow so it needs to be visible.)
5. To adjust other playback settings right click the sound icon and go to Custom
Animation. Click the down arrow next to the sound file name in the Custom Animation
window and select Timing. A new window appears with 2 tabs for choosing playback
settings.
Or
Putting a sound onto a slide transition
1. Right click one of the slide thumbnails and select Slide Transition in the
flyout menu.
2. In the Slide Transition menu go to Modify Transition>Sound and choose
Other Sound from the bottom of the dropdown menu.
3. Locate a sound from your file folder, select it, click OK, and the sound
name will appear in the sound menu. The sound will play through sequential slides
or until another sound cuts it off.
Putting movies on slides is similar to the first 5 steps listed above. Remember
that movies (avi, mov, or mpeg files) and sounds (wav files) over 100k are linked.
They need to be placed in your program folder before inserting onto the slide
so a relative link (path) is established in your PowerPoint file.
