Camera Shots
VLS very long shot, includes whole human figure, all of the action, and a good view of the background (also called ELS Extreme Long Shot)
LS long shot, includes whole human figure from head to foot so the figures are featured rather than the background
MS medium shot, usually above the waist, keeping the hands in is one way to visualize the shot
CU close up, frames the head and shoulders leaving head room above the head, a close up is about detail
ECU extreme close-up, frames the head so the top of the frame clips the forehead and the bottom of the frame clips the neck
Establishing shot shows the whole scene, usually at the beginning of the scene
Low angle pointing the camera up at the subject, person, or object
High angle pointing the camera down at the subject, person, or object

Camera Moves
Pan stands for panorama, the most common movement of the camera, sweeping across the scene to give a panoramic view
Tilt a movement of the camera platform to angle up or down along a vertical axis
Track the continuous movement of the camera platform in one horizontal direction
Dolly similar to tracking but the camera moves towards or away from a subject so the frame size gets smaller or larger
Zoom an optical effect created by changing the focal length and has the same effect as a dolly shot . The important difference is that a dolly shot maintains the focal length and depth of field.

Transition and other Terms
Cut "The most basic and indispensable transition on which modern visual editing relies is the cut."
Dissolve / Mix diminishes input from one video source as a second is added
Super "In the middle of a dissolve when 50 percent of the printer light or video source comes from each picture, a temporary effect called superimposition is produced."
Fade In from Black and Fade Out to Black
Wipe the effect of an incoming image pushing out the outgoing image

Audio Terms
SFX "A sound effect is anything other than speech or music."
Fade Out and Fade In Music diminishes input from one audio or video source as a second is added
Fade Under for example when you want music to continue but not compete with audio from another track
Segue To cross-fade two audio events
