Get Firefighter Ready

This course will offer basic, entry-level firefighting training for individuals who are seeking a career with state, federal and local fire departments. Upon successful completion of the course, students will receive certificates for the following:

  • Cal-Fire 1-A Structure 
  • Cal-Fire 1-B Hazardous Materials (FRO & FRA) 
  • Cal-Fire 1-C Wildland 
  • Cal-Fire 1-D Fire Protection Orientation 
  • S-190 Intro to Wildland Fire Behavior (8 hours) 
  • SFT Confined Space Awareness (SFT 8 hours) 
  • SFT Firefighter Survival (SFT 16 hours)) 
  • Public Safety-First Aid, CPR, AED, and Tactical Casualty Care (40 hours) 
  • S-130 Federal Wildland Firefighter (online) 
  • L-180 Human Factors Influencing Wildland Firefighting (online)) 
  • I-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System (online) 
  • I-200 ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents (online) 
  • IS-700 Introduction to National Incident Management System (online) 
  • IS-800 National Response Framework (online) 
  • S-110 Basic Fire Fighter Orientation (online) 
  • DGS Defensive Driving (online) 
  • Cal Fire Swift Water Awareness (online) 

Program Information

Enrollment in each academy is determined through a lottery. Names are drawn at random to establish the order of acceptance. If you are not selected for the academy you applied for, you will have the option to secure a seat in the next available academy.

To be eligible for the lottery, you must complete the following steps:

  • Attend an orientation session.
  • Obtain a signed medical clearance form from a licensed medical professional 
  • Complete all paperwork distributed at the orientation.
  • Pass the physical agility test (date to be determined).

Please note that the medical clearance form is valid for one year.
